Abstract:
Objective To explore the familial aggregation of hypertension and relative action of genetic and environmental factors on hypertension in Mongolian people.
Methods The blood pressures of the subjects were measured and the family trees were investigated in the field, and then the diagram of the family trees were drawn. The familial aggregation of hypertension and correlation coefficients for blood pressure among the members of family were analyzed by means of the χ2 test for goodness-of-fit to binomial distribution and correlation analysis.
Results The distribution of hypertension was not fit to binomial distribution, which implied hypertension was with familial aggregation in Mongolian people; the correlation coefficients for blood pressures were significant among all members of family; correlation coefficient between the siblings were the highest in the family members, with 0.38 and 0.32 for DBP and SBP, respectively. After spouses were stratified by the age of wife, significant correlation coefficient for blood pressure was found only between spouses with wife elder than 50 years old.
Conclusion Hypertension was with familial aggregation among Mongolian people, which was determined by genetic and environmental factors.
