Effect of bilirubin and vitamin E on antioxidant in pancreas tissues of diabetic rats

    Abstract:
Objective   To study the effect of bilirubin(BR)and vitamin E(VitE)on antioxidant in pancreas tissues of diabetic rats.
Methods   The level of malondialdehyde(MDA), superoxide dismutase(SOD), nitric oxide(NO)and nitric oxide synthase(NOS)in the pancreas tissue was determined after supplemention of bilirubin and VitE to diabetic rats induced by streptozotocin.
Results   Compared with the control group, SOD activity significanctly decreased(P < 0.01), the contents of MDA and NO and the activity of NOS also significantly increased in pancreas tissue of the diabetic group rats(P < 0105, P < 0.01).The NO content and NOS activity also significantlyincreased in pancreas tissue of giving drugs group rats(P < 0.05).Compared with the diabetic group, except SOD activity significantly raised, and other three indexes were significantly fall(P < 0.05, P < 0.01)after the addition of antioxidant.
Conclusion   BR and VitE can alleviate oxidative injury from free radicals in diabetic rats by protecting SOD activity and lowering the levels of MDA, NO and NOS in pancreas.
