A Study on Influenced between Blood Lead of Newlywed and Babies-Young Children with Low Level Lead Exposure in Shenyang

Abstract: In order to explore the relationship between newlywed exposed to low environmental lead levels and their new-borne babies,we monitored the vein blood lead levels from 692 pairs of young couples shortly after their marriage.781 samples of women's vein blood of mid-pregnancy,right before giving birth and from umbilical cord were also collcted for lead testing.206 samples of peripheral blood from heels of their babies from 6 to 30months of age were also collected and tested for lead under none-lead conditions. The average blood lead levels from both men and women living in the polluted area were all significantly higher than those in control area(P<0.05).The percentage of ≥20μg/dl blood lead levels for man were 19.6% in polluted area and 7.6% in control ones, and for women were 10.7% in polluted area and 4.0% in control ones. The blood lead levels had a decline trend from early pregnancy to late and umbilical cord compared to that of pre-pregnancy ones. While that for infants the bigger of age the higher lead levels. The average levels of lead for infants in polluted area were higher than in control area in all age groups, but no stgnificance were observed.
