Abstract:
Objective To explore the possible effects of bisphenol A(BPA)on the reproductive system of puberty male Wistar rats.
Methods Thirty male rats were randomly divided into 3 groups. The successive intraperitoneal administration of BPA at dose of 1 mg/(kg·bw)and 25 mg/(kg·bw)to rats was conducted in low and high dosage groups for 8 weeks every other day respectively, while rats in control group received the only solvent in equal volume. The body weight, testis and epididymis wet weights, ratios of testis/body weight and epididymis/body weight were determined. The histological observation of the testis and epididymis was carried out and the serum levels of murine sex hormones were detected by radioimmunoassay.
Results The murine body weights in both low and high dosage groups were significantly reduced as compared with that of control group.Additionally 2 rats in high dose group died in the process of experiment.Furthermore testis and epididymis wet weights, sperm counts of epididymal obviously reduced, and the ratio of testis/weight increased.Optical microscopy showed the interstitial edema of the testis and the interstitial vascular ectasia of the epididymis.
Conclusion BPA might exert probable adverse effects on murine body weight, development of reproductive system and spermatogenesis of puberty male Wistar rats.
