Abstract: ObjectiveTo explore the effects of different diet compositions on glucose transporter 4 in rat skeletal muscle.MethodsMale Wistar rats were fed with different diets(including basic diet,high protein diet,high fat diet,and high calorie 1st and 2nd diet)for nine weeks.The effects of the different diets on weight,the ratio of fat to body weight,blood glucose and insulin were observed.Western blotting technique was used to measure glucose transporter 4(GLUT 4)content in rat skeletal muscle.ResultsBody weight,the ratio of fat to body weight,blood glucose,insulin in the high calorie 1st and 2nd diet group were obviously higher than that in the groups of basic diet,high protein diet,and high fat diet(P<0.05),but there was no significant difference between the last three groups(P>0.05).The content of the GLUT 4 was decreased in high calorie 1 and 2 groups,and resembled in basic diet,high protein,high fat groups with equal energy.ConclusionHigh calorie diets can affect the glucose metabolism of the body.
