Abstract: ObjectiveTo study the relation between the life events and the quality of life among elders with empty nest in Guiyang city.MethodsUsing cluster sample method the MOS item short from health survey(SF236)and modified life event scale(LES)were used to investigate 867 elders≥60 years old living apart from their children in Guiyang city.Spss 1310 software was used for statistical analysis.ResultsThe negative life events and the quality of life showed a negative correlation(r=-0.392,P<0.05).There were differences with statistic significance between the group of living together with the spouse and living single,the group of the relative empty nest and the absolute empty nest(P<0.05).The economic difficulty,employment difficulties of posterity,serious diseases and the ignore of posterity had effects on the quality of life of the subjects.ConclusionThe quality of life of elder living with empty nest is influenced by negative life events.The quality of life of the elder living together with the spouse is higher than that of living single.The economic difficulty is the head of the negative life events.
