Abstract: ObjectiveTo explore the prev alence of children in jury in an island county and to provide scientific basis for injury prevention.MethodsWe used community survey program recommended by World Health Organization and carried out a household survey among 0-18 years old children in an island county of Guangdong province.ResultsThere were 452 children involved in the survey with an average age of 11.23 years and 228 of them(50.4%)suffered from injury.Boys were more likely to be injured than girls(odds ratioOR=2.468).Compared to high school students,preschool children(OR=5.795)and middle school students(OR=2.483)were more likely to be injured.Fall was the first cause of children injury(43.9%).The difference in injury types were statistically significant between the children of different gender and education level(P<0.001).ConclusionBoys and preschool children are the key populations for injury prevention.Fall is the most important type of children injury.According to the characteristics of children injury,effective prevention measures should be taken to reduce children injury in the island county.
