Abstract: ObjectiveTo under stand epidemiological characteristics of injury among residents of Ningbo city and to provide scientific data for prevention and control of injury.MethodsThree sentinel hospitals were selected in Jiangdong district and the unified record card was used to register new injury cases in these hospitals.Descriptive epidemiological method swere adopted in the analysis.ResultsA total of 8 032 injury case swere collected in 2009.The sexratio of the injury cases was 1.74:1(male:female).Of all cases,53.04% were at age of 15 to 44 years.The most of the injury cases were worker,farmer worker and farmer/fisher man.The first five in juries were fall(25.57%),traffic acc ident(22.36%),blunt strike(17.26%),cut(16.36%),and animal injury(12.82%).While the most of the injuries were unintentional and mild or moderate injuries(94.67%).Most of the injuries occurred at working place(29.64%),home(28.09%),street(26.58%), and highway(10.96%),and most of the injuries took place during work(43.5%)and leisure time(43.07%)in the months of May to September.ConclusionInjury is a serious public health problem in Ningbo city.The prevention and intervention should be focused on fall, traffic accident, blunt wound,and animal injury aong y oung males.
