Abstract: ObjectiveTo explore the relationships between the achievement motivation,competition attitude and coping style among new medical students.MethodsTotally 1 023 students were investigated with archievement motivation scale, competitive attitude questionnaire and coping style questionnaire.ResultsThe male students had higher scores in hypercom petitive attitude and self blaming coping and lower scores in help seeking than female students.The healthy competition attitude accounted for 15.7% of the mature coping style;the avoiding failure motivation accounted for 15.1% of the premature coping style,and 13.9% of the tendency of coping style.ConclusionThe achievement motivation and competitive attitude might act as predictors of coping style.
