Abstract: ObjectiveTo analyze the survival rates of cancer patients from 2000-2002 in Cixian county of Hebei province and to provide data for making cancer prevention project.MethodsTotally 4 170 cancer cases from Cixian county cancer registry diagnosed during 2000-2002 were selected.The observed survival rates for different groups of gender,age, geographical distribution,and morphology were calculated and tested with Kaplan-Meier method and log-rank test.Relative survival rate was calculated using Ederer I method.ResultsAmong the cancer patients,the top 10 incidences were: esophageal,stomach,lung,liver,colorectal,breast,nervous system,uteri cancer,leukaemia,and lymphoma and the median of survival for the ten cancers was 17,15,9,6,16,40,10,18,7,and 17 months,respectively.The observed survival rate of the cancer cases at one to five years was 34.92%,26.86%,20.98%,16.95%,and 14.99%,and the relative survival rate (RSR)was 36.61%,28.86%,23.43%,19.71%,and 18.18%,respectively.The cancers with a 5 year RSR of more than 20% were esophageal,colorectal,breast,and cervix cancer and the cancers with a 5 years RSR of less than 10% were lung, liver cancer and leukemia.The 5 year RSR of esophageal,stomach,and lung cancer was 21.65%,19.35%,and 7.23%, respectively.ConclusionThe survival rate is low for cancer patients in Cixian county.The factors affecting the cancer survival are sex,age,geographical location,and pathologic type of the cancer patients.
