Abstract:
ObjectiveTo detect the antimicrobial activity of galic acid and to provide basis for the development of antibacterial drugs.
MethodsThe disk diffusion method was applied to test the antimicrobial activity and the minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC)of galic acid on
Staphylococcus aureus,Escherichia coli,Salmonella enteritidis,Salmonella typhimurium,Bacillus cereus and
Candida albicans.
Results The galic acid had antimicrobial effect on
Staphylococcus aureus,Escherichia coli,Salmonella enteritidis and
Salmonella typhimurium, with the inhibition zone diameters of 9.0,7.5, 8.5,and 9.45 mm and the minimum inhibitory concentration values of 1,5,<0.5,and 10 mg/mL,respectively.
ConclusionThe galic acid has antimicrobial activity against
Staphylococcus aureus,Escherichia coli,Salmonella enteritidis and
Salmonella typhimurium and could be developed as an antibacterial drug.
