Abstract:
ObjectiveTo investigate the prevalence of muscle fatigue and its related factors among college students in Xi'an city,Shaanxi province.
MethodsBy using multi-stage stratified cluster sampling method,1 472 students from 5 universities in Xi'an city were selected for a questionnaire survey on general health condition and muscle fatigue-related symptoms.
ResultsThe prevalence of muscle fatigue was 41.8% in the students.The results of logistic regression analysis showed that grade(odds ratio
OR=3.184,
P=0.038),reading angle(
OR=1.012,
P=0.006),history of chronic disease(
OR=2.026,
P=0.009),medication history(
OR=2.989,
P=0.013),and mental stress(
OR=1.457,
P<0.001) were related to the increased occurrence of muscle fatigue;whereas,good sleep(
OR=0.725,
P<0.001)was related to the decreased occurrence of muscle fatigue.The prevalence of muscle fatigue among the students reporting the reading angle of 30° or above was significantly higher than those reporting the reading angle less than 25°(
P<0.05).
ConclusionThe prevalence of muscle fatigue among college students in Xi'an city is relatively high.Grade,reading angle,history of chronic disease,medication history,mental stress and sleep condition can affect the occurrence of muscle fatigue.
