Abstract: Objective To examine the prevalence and main influence factors of hypertension among rural residents aged ≥15 years in Dandong municipality and to provide evidences for hypertension prevention and treatment.Methods A total of 6 121 rural residents aged 15 years or elder were selected with stratified cluster sampling and surveyed with a questionnaire face-to-face.Results The prevalence rate of hypertension was 25.1% among the participants.The results of logistic regression analysis revealed that the risk of hypertension among the females was 1.32 times higher than among the males;compared to those at the age of 15-24 years,a 10 years increment of age in the participants aged ≥25 years was correlated with a 2.14 times increase in the risk of hypertension;compared to those with normal body weight,the participants with underweight,overweight,moderate obesity,and severe obesity had 1.70,1.28,1.89,and 2.23 times increased risk of hypertension;and the participants with diabetes had a 2.03 times increased risk of hypertension than those without the disease;whereas not smoking was a protective factor of hypertension,with an odds ratio of 0.83 compared with the smokers.Conclusion The prevalence rate of hypertension is higher than the average national level among rural residents at the age of 15 years and above in Dandong municipality and reasonable diet,body weight control,tobacco control,and health intervention among higher-risk populations need to be promoted to reduce the prevalence of the disease.
