Abstract: Objective To examine the prevalence and treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) among residents in industrial cluster areas of Ma'anshan city,Anhui province.Methods Using stratefied random cluster sampling,446 permanent residents were selected from 164 families in three villages in Zhenpugang New Zone of Ma'anshan city and surveyed face-to-face with a self-designed questionnaire during April 2014.Results Among the residents,the overall prevalence rate of NCDs was 41.3%;the rate was lower in the male residents than in the females (χ²=5.024,P=0.025) and the rate was high (69.9%) among the residents aged 60 years and over;the top five NCDs with higher prevalence rate were hypertension,heart disease,lumbar disc disease,chronic gastroenteritis,and diabetes,with the prevalence rate of 21.1%,3.4%,3.4%,2.9%,and 2.4%,respectively;and the awareness rate of hypertension was 70.7%.Among the residents with chronic diseases,58.7% reported suffering from one chronic disease,26.9% from two,and 13.4% from three or more diseases;the treatment rates of the diseases were 91.5% for hypertension,90.9% for diabetes,and 66.7% for lumbar disc disease.Conclusion The prevalence rate of NCDs was high and the awareness and treatment rate of hypertension,the most prevalent NCD,were also high among the residents in industrial cluster areas of Ma'anshan city.
