Abstract: Objective To explore the awareness of knowledge on tuberculosis (TB) control and prevention among permanent off-farm workers in Liaoning province,and to provide evidences for health education on TB.Methods Using random sampling,a questionnaire survey was conducted among 2 279 off-farm workers engaged in construction industry,catering service,environmental sanitation,and agricultural products retailing at Shenyang and Dalian city between January 2012 to August 2014.Results The overall awareness rate of knowledge about TB control and prevention in the respondents was 76.82%(8 754number of item-time answered correctly/11 395number of person-time questioned);there were significant differences in the rate between male and female respondents (77.62%4 853/6 114vs.70.10%458/723)(X²=6.811,P<0.05),between the respondents from other provinces and from Liaoning province (84.30%6 300/7 475vs.75.31%2 952/3 920)(X²=27.419,P<0.001),and between the respondents living in dormitories and living scattered (86.63%9 131/10 540vs.76.86%670/855)(X²=8.964,P<0.005).The awareness rate for three core TB-related knowledge was 78.53%(5 369/6 837).Conclusion The awareness of knowledge on TB control and prevention among permanent off-farm workers in Shenyang and Dalian city is at a relatively high level but health education on TB related knowledge still to be promoted among the workers for effective TB control.
