Influence of body mass index on cerebrovascular hemo-dynamic index among adult health examinees

Abstract: Objective To analyze the influence of body mass index (BMI) on cerebrovascular hemo-dynamic index (CVHI).Methods CVHI test, weight and height measurement, and questionnaire survey were conducted among 23 442 adults (17-94 years old) taking physical examination between January 2015 and January 2016 in Health Management Center of Xinjiang Medical University in Urumqi and People's Hospital of Power Company in Ji'nan city. The participants were assigned into a normal, overweight, and obesity group according to the criteria issued by Chinese Ministry of Health. The distribution of health risk factors and prevalences of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and dyslipidemia were analyzed among the three groups. Results The morbidity rate of overweight or obesity was higher among the male, the Uygur nationality, and the elder (≥ 60 years) participants than among the female, other nationality, and younger participants. The proportion of abnormal CVHI was higher among the participants with overweight or obesity than among those with normal body weight. The prevalence of hypertension, dyslipidemia, and alcohol drinking were significantly higher among the participants of overweight and obesity groups than among those of normal body weight group (P<0.05 for all). The results of unconditional multivariate logistic regression revealed that BMI was significantly correlated positively with abnormal CVHI (for BMI of 24-28:odds ratioOR=2.056,95% confidence interval95%CI:1.924-2.198;for BMI of 29 and above:OR=4.340,95%CI:4.020-4.686).Conclusion High BMI level is correlated with high risk of abnormality of CVHI; the result provides an evidence for relevant intervention in future.
