Abstract:
Objective To investigate the effect of tryptophan metabolite in the salivary glands of anopheles stephensi on malaria gametocyte activating factor.
Methods The change of activity of malaria gametocyte activating factor in the salivary glands of anopheles stephensi fed on fruoctose supplemented with tryptophan by exflagellation assay of plasmodium berghei in vitro.
Results The content of gametocyte activating factor in the salivary gland of anop heles stephensi was related with growth and development of the mosquitoes; exflagellation-inducing activity in the salivary gland was increased by supplementing the diet of mosquito with tryptophan.
Conclusion The addition of tryptophan in the diet of mosquito increased the content of malaria gametocyte activating factor in the salivary gland of anopheles stephensi.
