Abstract:
Objective To investigate serum leptin, insulin and their relationships in the simple obese children.
Methods Serum Leptin, insulin, C-peptide and fasting blood glucose were measured in 54 obese children and 60 non-obese children. At the same time, the relationship between leptin, obesity and insulin were studied.
Results Leptin, insulin, C-peptide, fasting blood glucose were much higher in obese children than in non-obese ones(P < 0.05), whereas insulin sensitivity index (IST) was much lower than that in non-bese children. Lept in was significantly correlated with BMI, %BF, BF, hip circumsference, insulin, C-peptide (P < 0.05). Leptin was not significantly correlated with blood glucose, LBM, WHR (P > 0.05).
Conclusion Obese children existed leptin resistance, hyperinsulinaemia and insulin resistance. Leptin was significantly correlated with BMI, insulin.
