Toxicity of perglutaric acid

  • Objective To study the toxicity of perglutaric acid for its application in disinfection. Methods Stimulation experiment was used to observe the local response of rabbit skin and eye mucosa to perglutaric acid.Accumulative toxicity test was carried out with fixed dose method, and the experiment was terminated when a half of animal were dead. The micronuclear test with polychromatic erythrocytes(PCEs)of bone marrow and sperm abnormality test were used to detect the toxicity of perglutaric acid. Results Perglutaric acid at concentrations of 2% or 0.5% has no stimulative effect on rabbit skin and eye mucosa(0 score for skin irritation,2 score for eye irritation). The accumulative toxicity of perglutaric acid is extremely weak, with a cumulative coefficient of 5.Compared with the negative control, perglutaric acid did not obviously increase the rate of sperm abnormality and micronuclear. Conclusion In a certain dose range, perglutaric acid has no stimulative effect on rabbit skin and eye mucosa and has no mutagenic effect with an extremely weak accumulative toxicity.Peracetic acid is a disinfector with low toxicity.
