Epidemics of disease and needs for emergency rescue after typhoon disaster

  • Objective To explore the epidemics of diseases and needs for emergency rescue after typhoon disaster.Methods Totally 434 adults were recruited from rural areas in coastal south-east of Cannan county attacked by a typhoon and interviewed with a structured questionnaire including socio-demographic characteristics,features of injuries and diseases after the disaster.Results There were 29.1% of the residents reporting the suffering of injuries or diseases and 20.36% (87/434)reporting hospitalization due to injuries caused by the typhoon attack.The prevalent diseases were acute respiration infection and acute gastroenteritis on the third day after the typhoon attack,wound infection on the 5th day,and relapse of some diseases on the 7th day.Conclusion Injuries are the most prevalent disease due to typhoon attack and midical rescue after the disaster should be carried out according to the prevallence of the disease.
