Evaluation of comprehensive prevention among HIV serodiscordant couples in Xinjiang

Objective To explore suitable prevention method among human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)serodiscordant couples in Xinjiang for reducing the transmission risk among the group.Methods The serodiscordant couples were enrolled for an one year comprehensive intervention on prevention of HIV infection.Questionnaire survey was conducted at the beginning and the end of the intervention.At the same time,blood test was carried out once a quarter.Results The serodiscordant HIV positive rate in the couples was 2.17%(8/368).The number of sero-conversion was reduced quarterly during the follow up.The results from questionnaire survey showed that the know ledge rate of AIDS raised from 87.9%(471/536)to 91.0%(405/445);the rate of condom use in every sex in the previous year increased from 65.5%(311/475)to 81.8%(350/438);the rate of condom use in the latest sex increased from 80.6%(382/474)to 90.7%(359/396).The proportion of sex after drunk in the laest year was reduced from 18.8%(89/474)to 12.4%(49/396).The proportion of sex after drug use in the previous year declined from 11.4%(54/475)to 7.1%(28/396).The proportion of receiving health education,condom and HIV test regularly from health workers in the previous year increased.Conclusion The comprehensive intervention on prevention of HIV infection among serodiscordant couples in Xinjiang is very effective.
