Quality of life and its influential factors among AIDS patients in Zhumadian city

Objective To study the quality of life and its influential factors among AIDS patients in Zhumadian city of Henan province,and to provide information for improving the quality of life of AIDS patients.Methods The World Health Organization's Quality of Life Instrument-Short Version(WHOQOL-BREF)(Chinese version)and a self-edited questionnaire were used to investigate 2 325 AIDS patients who were registered in "HIV serodiscordant family" and≥ 18 year-old and agreed to participate in a face-to-face interview.The score of quality of life of every domain and the risk factors of the score were analysed with logistic regression.Results AIDS patients' scores in the physical,psychological, social relations,and environmental domain were 12.94±1.94,12.38±1.93,13.82±2.44,and 12.39±1.92,respectively.Scores for self perceived quality of life and self perceived health status were 3.11±0.70 and 3.14±0.87.Multivariate analysis indicated that male,farmer,having AIDS related symptoms,and receiving antiviral treatment were risk factors associated with physical domain in the AIDS patients.Having sex with stable partners within the last 3 months,the transmission due to former plasma donation were protective factors for physical domain in the AIDS patients.Male,farmer, having AIDS related symptoms,having sexually transhitted disease(STD)related symptoms within the last one year were risk factors for psychological domain in the AIDS patients.Having sex with stable partners within the last 3 months,the transmission due to former plasma donation were protective factors for psychological field in the AIDS patients.Male,famer,having AIDS related symptoms were risk factors for social field in the AIDS patients.Having sex with stable partners within the last 3 months,the transmission due to former plasma donation and blood transfusion were protective factors for social field of AIDS patients.No factors were found to be significantly associated with environmental domain in the AIDS patients.Conclusion Gender,profession,whether or not having AIDS related symptoms,having STD related symptoms within the last one year,receiving antiviral treatment,having sex with stable partners within the last 3 months, and transmission routes were the main factors associated with the quality of life in the AIDS patients.
