Interventions for family caregivers of disabled elderly at home and abroad: a review on research progress

  • At present, the most of the disabled elderly in the world are still mainly cared by their family caregivers and those long-term and arduous care works could exert great negative impacts on physical and mental health of the caregivers. Therefore, researchers at home and abroad have paid more and more attentions to how to intervene on the family caregivers of the disabled elderly. Studies on the issue were started earlier in foreign countries, with many productive results compared to those in China. In this study, we reviewed and compared progresses in foreign and domestic researches on the intervention for family caregivers of disabled elderly and put forward some suggestions based on current situation of the elderly care in China for providing a reference to domestic development in relevant studies.
