Study on Distribution of Manganese in Rats Testicular Cells and its Male Reproductive Toxicity

  • ObjectiveIn order to find out the distribution of manganese in testicular cells and the effects of manganese on the contents of trace elements and thiol.MethodsMale rats were given intraperitoneally MnCl2·4 H2O(15mg·kg-1)per day during 84 days, and then the testicular subcellular fractions were separated in which the contents of manganese, copper, iron, zinc and thiol were determined.ResultsThe contents of manganese in soluble components and microsomes, zinc in microsomes were significantly increased, but thiol in mitochondria was remarkably decreased by subchronic administration of manganese.ConclusionHigh doses of manganese mainly accumulated in soluble components and microsomes of the rat's testicular cell, and caused a decrease in content of thiol and a changes of distribution of trace elements, which might play an important role in the reproductive toxicity of manganese.
