Secular Growth Changes of Chinese Youth and Intervene Suggestions

  • Objective To focuse on exploring the secular growth changes, the regularities and characteristics, and the existing problems in Chinese youths. Methods Both data of 1985 and 1995 National Survey of Students Constitution and Health were used. The changes of their physical growth and sex development during this period were analyzed. Results Overall changes of stature and body weight were found in all the youth groups, which suggested that Chinese youth populations began secular growth changes. The most significant phenomenon of the adolescent growth change was the advanced adolescent growth spurt. The evident problem was that the increment of adultheight was not significant. Conclusion More stronger strategies and methods should be taken in order to further promote the growth and health levels of the Chinese adolescents.
