Relationship between renin-angiotensin system activity and essential hypertension in Mongolian people

  •   Objective   To explore the association between activity of renin angiotensin system and essential hypertension in Mongolian people in China.
Methods   Based on a previous survey, 450 hypertensives and 590 nor motensives were recruited as study. They were divided into three pedigree groups according to genealogy of hypertension, i.e., hypertensive, non hypertensive and unknown ones, and each group subdivided into hypertensive cases & normal controls.Radioimmunoassay(RIA) was utilized to measure levels of angiotensin(Ang), angiotensin(Ang)and plasma rennin activity(PRA), respectively.
Results   There was significant difference in plasma level of Ang and Ang and PRA in three pedigree groups(P < 0.001).Not only significant difference in levels of Ang and Ang between the hypertensives and nor motensives in three pedigree(P < 0.05)was observed, but also significant difference in Agn and Ang was observed between the hyperten sives in hypertensive pedigree and the normotensives in non-hypertensive pedigree, respectively(P < 0.05).There was significant difference only in plasma level of PRA between the hypertensive and normotensive group of hypertensive genealogy(P < 0.05).
Conclusion   Plasma level of Ang, Ang and PRA may be related to hypertension in Mongolian people, and PRA seems to be correlated with family history hypertension.
