Relationship between genetic polymorphisms of N-acetyltransferase 2 and susceptibility of lung cancer

  •   Objective   To investigate the relationship between N-acetyltransferase 2(NAT2)genetic polymorphisms and lung cancer susceptibility.
Methods   A 1:1 matched case-control study was performed in which 215 hospital controls were matched to the 215 original lung cancer cases.M1, M2 and M3 alleles of NAT2 were detected by PCR-RFLP technique. The association between NAT2 polymorphisms and lung cancer risk was analyzed.
Results   The distribution of M3 allele between lung squamous carcinoma cases and controls was significantly different(χ2=4.30, P < 0.05).M3 allele was related with increased risk of lung squamous carcinoma(OR=1.63, 95%CI=1.03~2.59), especially in nonsmoking population(OR=2.23, 95%CI=1.07~4.65).No significant association was observed between NAT2 acetylator genotypes and lung cancer risk(P > 0.05).
Conclusion   M3 > allele of NAT2 may be associated with susceptbility of lung squamous carcinoma in nonsmo king population.
