Investigation on urinary Cd and BMD of population living in cadmium polluted area in Shenyang

  •   Objective   To explore the relationship of renal dysfunction and bone mineral density(BMD)in general population exposed to cadmium(Cd)after Cd pollution decades.
Methods   The targetpopulation comprised the inhabitants, wholived in and were more than 20 years.A sensitive instrument(GMY-I monophoton absorptionmetry)was used to measure the radius BMD in the po pulation.Cadmium in urine was performed with ato mic spectrophotometer.
Results   The levels of urinary Cd in population exposed to cadmium(Cd)were sig nificanthigher than those in control group(P < 0.05), urinary Cd concentration were related to the extentof exposure to Cd.The levels of BMD gradually decreased with the increase of urinary Cd concentration. The levels of BMD in exposed group were significantlower than those in control group(P < 0.05).
Conclusion   The levels of Cd in the body are high after leaving Cd exposure, which affectmetabolism of bone and reduse BMD.
