Effect of aluminum chelating agent on urinary trace elements excretion in rabbits

  •   Objective   To reveal the influence of 1, 2-dimethy1-3-hydrox ypyrid-4-one(DHPO)on the urinary trace elements, Copper(Cu), Zinc(Zn)and Manganese(Mn)ex cretion while it eliminatd aluminum in Al-loaded rabbits.
Methods   24 male New zealand white rabbits were randomly divided into 4 groups:control, low dose group, middle dose group and high dose group. The animals received aluminum dose(600 mol/(kg·d), 5 d/w)for two weeks by subcutaneous injec tion, and after the last injection, the DHPO sterile solution of 500, 750, 1000 mol/kg dose were given to low dose group, middle dose group and high dose group intragastrically. The urine were collected and the trace elements contents were analyzed by AAS.
Results   DHPO could highly increase aluminum output, whereas the excretion of urinary Cu, Zn, Mn contents in the groups administered with DHPO was not significantly different comparing with that in control group.
Conclusion   DHPO may effectively enhance the elimination of aluminum and exert little effect on urinary Cu, Zn, Mn excretion.
