A case-control study on relationship between lung cancer in non-smoking women and menstrual and reproductive factors

  •   Objective   To explore the endocrine factors and risk of lung cancer among non-smoking women.
      Methods   A case-control study on lung cancer was carried outin 18 hospitals of Shenyang, including 409 female cases and 436 female population controls matched by age within two years.Information on various menstrual and reproductive factors and use of oral contraceptives was gathered through personal interviews using a structured questionnaire.The risk factors were analyzed by logistic regression model.
      Results   An increasing risk of lung cancer was observed with high number of dilieries(trend test P=0.018)and later ages at menarche(trend test P=0.065).Moreover using of oral contraceptives would increase the risk of lung cancer and OR was 1.56(P=0.05).
      Conclusion   Female hormones are considered to play an important role in devel opment of lung cancer in non-smoking women.
