Objective To study the effect of dietary compositions on the expression of caveolin-1 in artery of rats.
Methods Dietary induced obesity(DIO)and dietary induced obesity resistant(DIO-R)rats were induced by high-fat diet for 15 weeks. And half of the DIO rats were switched to standar d diet(DIO-HF/LF), the other DIO rats(DIO-HF)and DIO-R rats continued their primary diet.Control group was fed with standard diet all through. At the end of the experiment by the 23rd week the rats were sacrificed and arteries were removed for measuring the expression of caveolin-1 by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR), western blotting and immunohistochemistry.
Results The final weights of DIO-HF/LF were lower than that of DIO-HF rats wher eas higher than that of CF rats. The level of caveolin-1 expression in DIO-HF group was the hig hest among the four groups, and no significant difference was found among the other three groups.
Conclusion Switched to standard diet of DIO rats could reduce the body weight gain and decrease the expression of caveolin-1 from high to the normal level, which might lower the risk of cardio vascular disease.DIO-R rats can remain normal expression of caveolin-1, which might be related to obesity resistance.
