Objective To explore the oxidized injury of respiratory system in rats exposed to air pollutants.
Methods 48 Wistar rats were divided into three treated groups(1, 7, 30 d)and one control group randomly. The treated rats were exposed to PM 10 by intratracheal instillation, and then were exposed to mixed gases of SO2, NO2, and CO by static inhalation for 1, 7, and 30 d.The activities of superox ide dismutase(SOD)and glutathione pero xidase(GSH-Px)and the levels of GSH and malondialdehy de(MDA)in serum and BALF were measured.
Results The activity of SOD in serum was significantly decreased, and the levels of GSH and MDA in serum were significantly increased in 1 d group compared with control group.T he activities of SOD and GSH-Px and the levels of GSH in BALF of rats in 30 d group were significantly lower than those in control group.
Conclusion Air pollutants can induce the ox idized injury of respiratory system in rats.
