Analysis on obesity and its risk factors among inhabitants of Bortala prefecture of Xinjiang autonomous region

  •   Objective   To find out the epidemiological characteristics of overweight and obesity in the inhabitant over 30 year-old from Mongolians, Kazakans, Uygurs and Hans in Bortala Prefecture of Xinjiang, and the relation between obesity and cardiov ascular risk factor.
      Methods   The epidemiological study was carried out in 3732 Inhabitants over 30 year-old by cluster sampling.
      Results   The prevalence rates of overweight and obesity in this region were 36.02% and 27.39% respectively, which were higher in city than in country.There was not a significant difference in total over weight/obesity between male and female; Male.s overw eight was higher than female's; Female's obesity was higher than male's.Risk of suffering from overweight and obesity was highest in Mongolians.po pulation, lowest in Kazakans.Male of Mongolians.and female of Uygurs.obesity were very high.The risk factors of overweight and obesity were age, gender, nationality, vocation, education level, drinking, meat.Male was much more than female in overweight/obesity with cardiovascular risk factor.
      Conclusion   The high morbidity of overw eight and obesity is becoming one of the prominent public health problems in the region investigated, especially obesity.Male of obesity in four ethnic group is high risk group of cardiov ascular disease.
