Study on interrelationship of suicide attempts and sex-related behaviors among medical students

  • ObjectiveTo understand the prevalence of suicide attempts and investigate the association of suicide attempts and sex-related behaviors among medical students.MethodsA questionnaire survey on suicide attempts and sex-related behaviors was conducted among 1466 students at 1-5 grades in a medical college;data was analyzed using the methods of descriptive epidemiology and non-conditional Logistic regression.ResultsThe suicide attempts rate of medical students was 15.96%.The suicide attempts rate of the high-grade students was higher than the low-grade students.The suicide attempts rate of one-child families was higher than the multi-child families.The suicide attempts was related to blame everyone and every thing but oneself,suffer venereal disease,fighting behavior,read porno or see video,sex act,console oneself act,using drug,all-night on net,control weight,suffer insomnia,lack of exercise,appeal psy chologist using non-conditional Logistic regression among students,OR was 3.247,1.868,1.736,1.671,1.566,1.542,1.530,1.478,1.425,1.401,1.351 and 1.321 respectively.ConclusionThe rate of suicide attempts was high and suicide attempts was close asso ciation with sex-related behaviors among medical students,sex-r elated behaviors were important risk factors of suicide attempts,effective interventions should be implemented.
