Inhibition of soybean hypocotyl on oxidation of lipoprotein in diabetic rats

  • ObjectiveTo study the inhibitory effects of soybean hypocotyl extracts on oxidation of plasma lipoproteins in diabetic rats.MethodsTotal glycosides were extracted from soy bean hypocotyl, then detected with high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC).Diabetic rats were given feed containing 100 g/kg soybean hypocotyl extracts for 20 weeks, and lipid peroxide(LPO)levels of lipoproteins and susceptibilities of lipoproteins to oxidation were investigated.ResultsLPO levels of plasma,LDL and HDL fractions of the experimental rats were(17.1±2.2),(2.6±0.5)and(3.9±0.7)mol/L, respectively after soy hypocotyl extract intake, which were significantly decreased than those of control rats(21.4±3.5),(3.4±0.8)and(5.4±0.9)mol/L;lag phage of LDL oxidation curve in vitro was(120±36)min,noticeably prolonged than that of of control rats(83±27)min.ConclusionIt is suggested that soy hypocotyl extracts, which can decrease the peroxidizability of lipoproteins and promote resistance to LDL oxidation, may be useful in prevention and treatment of diabetes mellitus and diabetes-associated diseases.
