Survey on diet nutrient intakes of rural elderly in Qingdao

  • Objective To knowthe nutrition status of the rural elderly by a diet survey.Methods A 24hr diet recall in 500 elderly people was used to survey and analyze total quantity of food consumption,nutrients intake and the constitution of diet.Results The average daily intake of energy of the investigated males and females was 91.8% and 85.20% of RN I(Recommended Nutrient Intake),the intake of protein was 91.4% and 87.1% of RN I,the retinol was 64.0% and 58.3% of RNI and the Vit C was 63.9% and 56.2% of RN I,respectively.The intake of Vit E was 60.7% and 5319% of A I(Adequate Intake),respectively.More than 60% of the source of energy was from vegetation,in which 56.5% was grains.39.7% of the protein was from grain,and 3817% from animal food.For male and female subjects,66.2% and 69.7% of the total energy was provided by carbohydrate,17.5% and 15.8% by fat,and 16.3% and 15.2% by protein,raspectively.Conclusion The intakesof eggs and aquatic food were enough in the diet of the elderly people,while the intakesof fruits,vegetables and grains were lower.The intake of protein was ideal,but the intakes of Vit E,Vit C and retinol were insufficient.The ratio of energy provided by fat was lower than by carbohydrate or protein.
