Effect of anthocyanin extracted from black rice on insulin sensitivity in fructose-fed rats

Abstract
Objective To investigate the effects and possible mechanisms of anthocyanin extracted from black rice(A EBR)on insulin sensitivity in fructose-induced insulin resistant rats. Methods A total of 48 rats were randomly divided into 4 groups fed with different diets for 8 weeks.Compared with the control group, the impact of A EBR on insulin sensitivity and activation of c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase(JNK)in fructose-fed rats supplemented with or without 5g/kg of A EBR was assessed. Results A EBR prevented and attenuated high-fructose-induced insulin resistance, reduced the activation of JNK and improved insulin transduction in adipose tissue of fructose-fed rats(P<0.05).Conclusion The improvement of insulin sensitivity by A EBR in fructose-fed rats is associated with the inhibition of JNK activation.
