Investigation on mental health and social support in college students with online love

  • Objective To study the mental health and social support of college students with online love and to provide bases for psychological counseling.Methods The quest ionnaire of online love college students,SCL-90 and Social Support Rating Scale were used to survey 850 college students.Results The prevalence of mental problems in students with online love was 71.43%.The scores of students with online love were significantly higher than students without online love in compulsion(2.11±0.46/1.97±0.52,P=0.049),depression(1.98±0.68/1.77±0.52,P=0.031),hostility(1.99±0.64/1.74±0.57,P=0.007)and paranoid ideation(1.9±0164/1.69±0.48,P=0.030).Significant differences of subjective support,objective support and utility percentage did not exist between students with and without online love.Utility percentage of the support could predict the mental health of students with online love(β=-0.504).Conclusion There were serious mental health problems in students with online love.Utility percentage of the supporthas important effect on the mental health of the students with online love.
