Investigation on internet addiction disorder in college students

  • Objective To investigate the status of college students with internet addiction disorder(IAD)and the relationship with sensation seeking.Methods IAD Test Questionnaire and Sensation Seeking Scale were administered to 1 227 college students in three colleges in Changchun in 2007.Results The incidence of IAD in college students was 718%,and 12.66% for male,5.46% for female.Significant difference of the incidence existed between different sexs.The difference of the disinhibition of sensation seeking and the summation of sensation seeking had significant difference between gaming addiction disorder and others(t=2.945,2.802,P<0.01).The difference of the disinhibition of sensation seeking and the summation of sensation seeking had significant difference between communication addiction disorder and others(t=4.188,2.271,P<0.05).The disinhibition of sensation seeking and the summation of sensation seeking correlated positively with the IAD(r=0.721、0.632,P<0.01).Conclusion College students with IAD had high sensation seeking and the sensation seeking had certain influence on IAD.
