Cross-sectional study on house decoration and its health effects in four cities of China

  • ObjectiveTo explore the association between house decoration and residents' health.MethodsUsing simple cluster sampling method,subjects living in Beijing,Tianjin,Shanghai and Nanjing cities in China were selected and detail information on house decoration and family member's health status was collected.ResultsAmong 6 681 residents interviewed,4 008(60.0%)reported different severe discom for table symptoms after living in the new decoration house.The interval from living in the house to the date decoration finished and the time stayed in the decorated house were risk factors of residents' ill symptoms.Decoration materials including hydrophilic dope,wall paper,wooden floor,tile and marble were protective factors,but compound floor,chemical fiber carpet and leather floor were risk factors.Opening kitchen and gas using were risk factors.However smoke evacuation system and ventilation by opening windows were protective factors.ConclusionDifferent severe discom for table symptoms appear after living in new decoration house among the residents.The discom for table symptoms are the result of many decoration factors combined together.
