Association of leptin receptor gene mutation with BMI and serum lipid levels in hyperpietic population of China

  • ObjectiveTo investigate the association of leptin receptor gene(LEPR)A223G polymorphism with BMI and serum lipid levels in hyperpietic population of China.MethodsThe subjects were collected in Huangpu district in Shanghai,China. All subjects were subjected to a standard questionnaire and physical examination.PCR-RFLP method was used to detect the genotypes of A223G mutation.Obesity was classified as BMI≥24 kg/m2.ResultsNine hundred and two hypertension sufferers were eligible for the analysis.TG and TG/HDL levels were significantly higher and HDL level was significantly lower in obesity group than those in normal body weight group(P<0.05).The interaction of A223G mutation genotype and obesity were statistically significant in HDL(95% CI=0.0-0.1,P=0.042).ConclusionThe results indicate that LEPR A223G mutation is associated with serum lipid levels and it can modulate the relationship between obesity and serum HDL level.
