Curative effect of EDTA on kidney injury caused by chronic lead poisoning

ObjectiveTo study the protective effect of sodium calcium edetate(EDTA)on kidney injury in chronic lead poisoning patients.MethodsThe 52 chronic lead poisoning workers were treated with EDTA for 3 years.The blood lead(PbB),erythrocyte zinc protoporphyrin(ZPP),urine β₂-microglobulin(U-β₂-MG),urine retinal conjugated protein(U-RBP),urine β-N-acetylyluco-samidase(U-NAG)of the workers were dynamically detected.ResultsAll of the indices of poisoning worker were higher than that of control group before EDTA treatment(P<0.01).After continuously treatment of EDTA,the values of the indices decreased year by year and the differences in the values between each year were significant(P<0.01).ConclusionThe EDTA treatment is protective to the kidney injury in chronic lead poisoning patients.
