Mental health and its relationship with general self-efficacy and coping style among college freshman

Abstract
Objective To study mental health and its relationship with self efficacy and coping style among college freshman.Methods A total of 521 college freshman were administe red with UPI(University Personality lnventory),GSES(General Self Efficacy Scale)and a questionnaire of coping style.Results The rate of mental health problems was 44%.There was no significant difference in mental health status between the freshman of different gender,from different areas,and from families with different number of children.There were differences in mental health between freshman with different self efficacy and coping style(P<0.001).The mental health status was positively correlated with self efficacy and coping style(r=0.23,0.21;P<0.001).Conclusion The training of self efficacy and coping style can improve mental health status among college freshman.
