Suicidal behavior and subhealth among high school students in Bengbu city

  • Objective To understand subhealth status and its influenceon suicidal behavior among urban high school students in Bengbu city,to provide evidence for promoting mental health and early intervention for suicide behavior in secondary school students.Methods The survey was conducted among 3784 students in urban high school students.Suicidal Behavior Questionnaire and Physical and Mental Health Questionnaire of Young People were adopted and the multi-factor regression was used in the analysis.Results The subhealth detection rate was 52.70%.The reported rates of suicide ideation and suicide attempt were 30.5% and 3.5%,respectively.Suicide ideation and suicide attemptrates were higher in students with a subhealth symptoms than in the students without the symptomswith significant difference.The suicide ideation and attempt were positively correlated with subhealth symptoms.Multi-factor regression analysis showed that emotional problem,behavior problem,social adaptation difficulty,and lower body vitality were risk factors for suicide ideation,and emotional problem,behavior problem were the risk factors of suicide attempt.Conclusion There were high prevalence of subhealth and suicide ideation among high school students in Bengbu city.Subhealth and subhealth symptoms have obvious impact on suicide ideation and attempt among high school students.
