Personality characteristics and mild cognitive impairment among the elderly

Objective To explore the role of personality inmild cognitive inpaiunent(MCI) and to provide a scientific evidence for taking effective preventive measures.Methods With random clusterram pling method,232 subjects with MCI and 232 controls matched by age,sex and education were selected from elder population in nine communities of Taiyuan in 200& The single factor and the multi-factor condition logistic regression were perfouned with Epi-Data and SPSS13.0 software.Results The results of single factor condition logistic regression showed that there were significant differences between the MCI group and the control group in all factors of Cartels 16 Peronality Factor Questionnaire(16PF) such as liveliners(A)(x^{2<.sup>=2.826,p=0.003),aggressiveness(E)(x2=11.581,p=0.000),anxiety(O)x2=2.409,p=0.001),independence(Q2)(x2=0.351,p=0.046) and perfectionism(Q 3)(x2=0.173,p=0.001).The results of the multi-factor condition logistic regression analysis showed that there were significant differences in 16 PF's scores including aggressiveness(E)(x2=34.920,p=0.000),independence(Q2)(x2=4.168,p=0.041),perfectionism(Q3)(x2=6.560,p=0.010).Am ongfactars of 16 PF,independence(Q2) FOR=0.050,95% CI=0.005-0.515),perfectionism(Q3)(OR=0.057,95% CI=0.009~0.407) were the independent protective factors of MCI.At the ramatine,the interaction of independence(Q2) and perfectionism(Q3) were identified as the independent preventive factors of MCI(OR=0.059,95% CI=0.011~0.298).Conclusion In factors of 16 PF,aggressiveness is the independent risk factor of MCI Independence and perfectionism are the protection factors of MCI High independence and high perfectionism in 16 PF factors have both independent role and interaction role on MCI}
