Relationship between C-reactive protein and essential hypertension in Mongolian population

  • Objective To explore the association between plasma concentration of C-reactive protein(CRP) and the risk of essential hypertension among Mongolian population. Methods The residents aged 20 or above in thirty two villages of Kezuohou Banner and Nain an Banner in Inner Mongolia were selected as study subjects The senun levels of CRP,blood pressure were deteun fined and the infounanon on cardiovascular risk factors were collected with questionnaire among the participants Logistic regression was used to analyze adjusted effect of CRP on essential hypertension. Results The average level of CRP(11.34 mg/L)in the hypertensives was significantly higher than that of in the nounotensive(8.08mg/L,P <0.001).There was a significant linear relationship between plasma CRP level and systolic blood pressure(P <0.001).Compared to the lowest quartile of CRP,the multivariable-adjusted odds ratio(95% CI) of hypertension for the highest quartile was 1.41(1.06-1.86).Conclusion Increased CRP level may be an independent risk factor of hypertension.
