Survey on teachers for general practitioner training in Chinese medical schools

  • Objective To obtain main information on teachers for general practitioner training in Chinese medical schools and to provide scientific evidence for general practitione reducation in China.Methods In March 2009,a survey was admin is trated among general practitioner(G P)teachers in 51 medical schools in China.The data were analyzed with SPSS 13.0.Results There were 201 GP teachers in 51 medical schools.The average age of the teachers was 4216 years old.The major part of the teachers was male in the east region(57.1%)and the ratio of female was higher in the west(61.2%).There was no significant difference in gender and age ratio among the teachers in east,middle,and west region.Most of the teachers had the speciality in clinicai medicine(38.3%)and the ratio of the teachers with the speciality of GP was 4.0%.The percentage of doctor,master and bachelor degree was 18.4%,44.8%,and 35.3%,respectively,among the teachers.The time in GP teaching for most of teachers in the west region was 4 or less than 4 years and for the teachers in the east region was more than 6 years.Conclusion The human resource on general pratitioner training should be regulated and supp orted.The evaluation on qualification of teachers for general practitioner training should be promoted.
