Relationship between expression of adiponectin mRNA in adipose and placenta tissue and gestational diabetes mellitus

Objective To investigate the expression of adiponectin mRNA in adipose and placentatissue among normal pregnant women and gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM) patients in order to evaluate the role of adiponectin in GDM.Methods Reverse trascription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) was used to detectad iponectin expression level in adipose and placenta of 60 GDM cases and 60 normal controls after caesarean section delivery.Results The expression of adiponectin was significantly decreased in the adipose tissue of GDM cases campared to that of the normal controls(1.05±0.12 vs 1.28±0.14,P < 0.01) Conclusion There sults prove that the a lteration of adiponectin mRNA expression in adipose play an important role in the patho genesis of GDM.
