Relationship between obesity, dyslipidemia and type 2 diabetes

  • Objective To study the relationship between obesity, dyslipidemia and type 2 diabetes. Methods Acase control study among 184 type 2 diabetes patients from 3 hospitals and 212 normal health examinees was conducted in Chongqing city during the period of Oct,2008 to Feb,2009.Results The body mass index(BMI),waisthip ratio(WHR),serum total cholesterol(TC),and triglyce ride(TG) of the case group were higher than those of the control group And the test demonstrated that the differences were statistically significant. The over weight and obesity rates(64.67%),the detection rates of high TC(27.17%) and high TG(50.00%) of the case group were higher than those of the control group with significant differences. The multifactor non conditional logistic regression analysis showed that hypercho lesterolemia, overweight and obesity were major risk factors for type 2 diabetes. Conclusion Obesity and dyslipidemia are related to the occurrence of type 2 diabetes.Controlling weight and a reasonable diet are important measures to preventtype 2 diabetes.
