Dietary structure among patients with diabetes or impaired glucose regulation in Uygur

Objective To investigate the dietary intake among patients with diabetes mellitus(DM) or impaired glucose regulation(IGR) in Uygur communities,and to provide scientific basis for carrying out diet related education and intervention in communities.Methods With stratified cluster sampling method,a cross sectional study was conducted among 529 subjects older than 40 years in 6U ygur communities of Urumqi.Finally 191 people were selected as survey sample and divided into three groups according to the result of oralglucose to lerancetest:DM group,IGR group,and normal group.In formation and awareness on diet was collected by 24 hours dietary recalled method and questionnaire.Results The in takes of macronutrients,vitamins and minerals of IGR group were more than that of DM group.The in takes of vitam in A,riboflav in,vitam in C,calc ium were all in sufficient for the three groups.The lack of calcium was the most obvious.The in takes of phosphorus,iron and vitam in E were more than that of recomm ended level.Conclusion The die tary structure of DM patients is not reasonable.Nutrition education among DM patients is necessary.
